Turkey: UN Country Team Update on Syrian Displacement 8 - 9 September 2012


• There is no new figures officially reported by the Government of Turkey since September 5,2012. While the official figures remained as 78,431, with the recent few hundreds of new arrivals and voluntary returns, the unofficial estimated figure of the local authorities is 80,000.

• According to the information from the local authorities (MFA and AFAD), 201 new arrivals were admitted and transferred to the camps and 135 Syrians have returned to Syria voluntarily during the 24 hrs of September 8-9,2012.

• Reportedly the number of Syrians across the border on the Syrian side is still around 10,000 of which half of them are across Kilis border and the other half is across Hatay borders (Yayladağıand Reyhanlı). Basic humanitarian assistance is continued to be provided at zero point of the border.

• Reportedly there is no restriction in admission of those seeking temporary protection however the process is slow due to procedures and security checks and people are admitted in smaller groups.
